Tara Spencer is motivated by family, faith and fellowship. Her passion to help clients find attainable living in greater Crested Butte drives her to go above and beyond in every real estate transaction. She views life as a journey where taking leaps of faith and helping others succeed yield meaningful rewards for all.
Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, Tara, who holds a degree from Texas Tech University, and her husband/business partner Martin were high school sweethearts who started out in the cattle ranching industry. When they decided to change their lifestyle and sell the ranch, it sat on the market for three years with an unmotivated realtor who failed to maximize its exposure. That negative experience led both Tara and Martin to realize they could market homes and connect with clients in a far more productive and positive way, and they began to explore careers in real estate and home development. “As a realtor, I want people to truly feel like I’m on their team and I am their advocate because that was such a challenging experience for us in Texas.”
Martin’s family lived in Crested Butte in the 90s, so a passion for mountain living was ingrained in him at a young age. The couple spent vacations in Crested Butte during the early years of dating and married life, and appreciated the slower pace of the mountain lifestyle. Unable to shake the ‘mountains are calling and I must go’ bug, they moved north in 2018 with their two children, Robert and Emery. The family lived in three different areas of Crested Butte before purchasing their current home—an experience that provided firsthand knowledge of the town’s various neighborhoods. Currently, they are developing several duplexes and fourplexes in Buckhorn that offer high-quality, functional living at an attainable price point.
While Martin is the General Contractor for their development projects, Tara enjoys dabbling in the design aspect of the spec projects and also finds it fulfilling to connect with clients on an emotional level. “Some people are nervous about making a big move to a small mountain town. My family had such a positive experience coming to Crested Butte and I want everyone’s experience to be positive. My favorite questions to answer are What brought you here? and What do you love about living in Crested Butte?”
An active member of the Crested Butte community, Tara leads a weekly prayer group at her church, runs a women’s online Bible study through Bible Study Fellowship, and volunteers with the local PTA. She also loves to hike, bike and Nordic ski with her family and their puppy, Ginger.
