City of Gunnison
The City of Gunnison is the largest city within Gunnison County and is also the county seat. Gunnison is also home to Western State Colorado University which has recently become an accredited 4-year university. The City of Gunnison has just under 6,000 year round residents. Gunnison’s history started as many towns in this area with being a fur trapping town in the early 1800’s and then transitioning into a mining town around 1850. Gunnison then became a ranching town around 1880 and still maintains that same western and ranching culture today. Gunnison still continues Cattlemen’s Days, a 10-day rodeo and stock show event that was started over 115 years ago.
The City of Gunnison homes are mainly traditional style. Most of the homes are of moderate size and many having been built over 50 years ago.
